The family of an unarmed black man killed by a New Jersey state trooper is outraged that police video was released to the public before they saw it.

The conflict is the latest step in an incident which began gaining national attention over the weekend when the family of 28-year-old Maurice Gordon called on New Jersey officials to provide information regarding his death, and in the wake of national protests regarding instances of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. Their calls were echoed by politicians and community members, and #justiceformaurice was trending on social media.
