Jefferson Lewis Edmonds, born enslaved in Mississippi, became one of Los Angeles’ most prominent citizens. Edmonds was the publisher of the Liberator, an influential newspaper focused on L.A.’s African American community. Now his descendants are working with Los Angeles Public Library to make sure he is not forgotten.
