NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Holds a Press Conference | LIVE | NowThis

CUOMO ORDERS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN POLICE REFORMS: NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo holds a press conference on the latest coronavirus developments in the state and the ongoing protests against police brutality. After recently signing a series of new police reform bills into law, Cuomo also announced a new executive order that requires local governments and police departments to come up with a plan for community input and involvement in law enforcement reform or they risk losing state funding. The governor said community members should have input on what the overall function of the police should be, as well as more specific topics like budgeting, use of force, how to handle crowd management, and what weapons or gear police should have. Cuomo said this next chapter in the state is all about building trust, telling the press ‘we’re not going to fund police agencies in this state that can’t look at what is happening, come to terms with it, and reform themselves.’
