Recently, I was invited to stay at the newest and Tripadvisor top-rated hotel in El Nido, Palawan – The Funny Lion (hotel info). We were invited for a weekend stay at the hotel property with other lifestyle content creators to kick off the summer season.

And in this article, I will share with you The Lunny Lion El Nido Hotel review, from facilities, food, and customer service. So let’s get started!

Hotel Location

If we’re talking about accessibility, The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel is definitely the place to be. Conveniently located in the town proper, this extravagant boutique hotel is only about 10-15 minutes from the airport, beach, restaurants, shops, and other establishments.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a spacious and homey lobby. The check-in process was swift, and they provided us with a refreshing welcome drink – a ginger and calamansi fruit drink that hit the spot. That welcome drink and the cold towel set the mood, and I was truly impressed immediately! Then, the staff helped us with our luggage and brought us to our rooms.

Rooms

The hotel only offers two room options, a King and a Cub room. I stayed in a Cub room (room 133) with two single beds, perfect if you’re with a partner or travel buddy. Located on the 3rd floor of two adjacent buildings, my room has a balcony, where I enjoyed the beautiful view of the courtyard pool.

The Cub room has a floor area of 26 sqm, and it’s complete with amenities, such as air-conditioning, cable TV, a phone, a mini-refrigerator, and a hot coffee and tea-making facility. Also, the mini fridge comes with complimentary refreshing fruit juice and a small jar of fresh fruits.

Like the entire hotel’s fancy vibe, the Cub room has a luxurious bathroom with complete amenities, such as a hot and cold rain shower, a hair dryer, and a refillable organic shampoo and body wash. You can also keep your valuables secure as they have an in-room safe.

If you’re a digital nomad like me, don’t worry about connection issues since they provide complimentary Wi-Fi internet with 5mbps reliable speed. Also, I’m glad the room has a work desk with two power outlets. I was able to work efficiently in between our tours and activities.

Since the hotel recently opened, you can expect a fresh, clean, and exceptional room condition.

Food

Now, a good vacation won’t be complete without good food. The Funny Lion El Nido made sure their breakfast spread caters to everyone. They serve great local dishes, international flavors, fruits, salad, and bread selections.

On our second day, I tried their room service for breakfast. I was surprised by the huge portions and fine food selection on a huge plate. The food is amazingly fresh, and the daily afternoon popsicles at the poolside were a nice treat.

Resort Facilities

Swimming Pool

If you want to simply relax and enjoy your vacation, the hotel also has a swimming pool where you can take a dip and snap Insta-worthy pics. The swimming pool is placed between the two adjacent buildings. It has lounge chairs and is surrounded by tropical greens, emitting a tropical vibe.

It’s beside the Hunt Restaurant, so you can sip a refreshing drink while relaxing. The pool is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm.

Sea Tree Spa (Opening Soon)

As a new highly-rated accommodation in El Nido, The Funny Lion Hotel not only focused on luxury amenities. But they also ensure their guest can relieve their fatigue and body pains. With the Sea Tree Spa, you can enjoy an exclusive range of services and feel like royalty.

They offer authentic Filipino massage therapies and healing arts to relieve stress and fatigue. If you want to spice things up, try romantic bathing rituals with your partner or beauty treatments to look radiant and fresh.

Papaya Beach

Aside from the fancy pool, resort guests have complimentary access to the stunning Papaya Beach, boasting fine white sands and crystal clear blue waters. This pristine beach is lined with palm trees and lush greeneries, the perfect spot to relax and unwind.

We went to the beach for lunch. But by the time we arrived, it was drizzling. Eventually, the rain stopped, and we enjoyed swimming at this secluded beach.

Other Services

The hotel has a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage. In addition, they provide room service, housekeeping, and turndown services. So we don’t have to worry about keeping our rooms tidy during our entire stay. All we had to do was relax, have fun, and repeat.

If you want fancy dining in a secluded spot, the hotel arranges a picnic by the peach at Papaya Island. Apart from its impressive and inviting architecture, the hotel’s best feature is its staff, who will go above and beyond to ensure we have a good vacation. Regarding customer service, The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel is superb.

Departure

On our last day, leaving the resort was the hardest part. Like the other sister resorts of The Funny Lion El Nido, their best asset is their people. After staying for 3 nights, I felt like this hotel’s my new-found home because the staffs are so welcoming and accommodating during our whole stay.

Although there are plenty of equally beautiful properties in the area, this resort stands out from the rest as its staff goes the extra mile to meet their guests’ needs and demands.

As we left the property, the entire staff was all present, waiving goodbyes, which reminded me of family reunions in the province where I grew up. Also, I commend the great minds behind the iconic design of the building. It was truly relaxing and captivating to look at.

The high ceilings, open spaces, and earth-color rooms give a more homey vibe. Let’s not forget to mention the stylish pool with a tropical feel. I will surely come back to El Nido and stay in this hotel. So if you want to experience a 5-star service for a reasonable price, The Funny Lion El Nido Hotel will not disappoint.
